Winter means it's time to talk about snowmen! Here is a snapshot of my Winter Wonderland Language Arts and Math Unit! Part of it is all about snowmen!
It's always fun to add paint in the mix to teach math! We are practicing writing and counting numbers 1-20, and today our focus number was 12. We made a snowman craft to practice these skills. We sponge painted the snowmen in the morning and then wrote the numbers and added detail in the afternoon, when the paint was dry. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Sponge paint 12 circles standing on top of each other to resemble a long snowman body. :)
Step 2: Let snowmen dry.
Step 3: Write the numbers starting at the bottom circle up to the top in pencil first. I wanted to make sure that they were forming their numbers correctly before they wrote in marker.
Step 4: Trace over numbers with black marker so they show up better on the blue paint.
Step 5: Add snowman detail.
I love this! We did it today on blue paper with white paint. We wrote our numbers from 1-20 and then added construction paper hats and scarves. The kids LOVED it! I'm so glad you posted this activity! Next year, I'm going to do it as a math work station and have the kids use the Do-a-Dot daubers. :) Thanks again for sharing!
