Silent Reading…With a Few Furry Friends…

Today I wanted to put a spin on “silent reading” with my little kinders.  I have just introduced them to small decodable books, where they can read their sight words, or just tell a story looking at the pictures.  I wanted them to practice reading and turning the pages to the picture books in our class library.  I thought…lets bust out the puppets and stuffed animals and read to them!!!

I asked each child to choose a furry friend in the classroom and read to it!  Most of the students did a great job staying on task, and “pretending” to read to their little animal.  You have to see these adorable pictures…

I think we will practice this once a week, and eventually they will be reading real books to each other! 🙂

Love this idea…I've done this before in the past for a "special" reward but now I'm thinking about making it a weekly thing after reading your post. Pinned it too! 🙂
