Painting with Prefixes

I found the most ADORABLE Prefix Crafitvity by Deb Hanson, and I loved making it with my students.  I am trying several different strategies to get them to remember prefixes, and this is one that really hit home with them!  The students made little paint palates that focused on a certain prefix.

You can see the process of my littles making the craft...  They picked a prefix, and then cut paint shapes to glue on.  What is amazing about 4th grade, is I don't have to prep as much!  They can make a lot of the craftivities on their own!

This prefix craftivity warms my heart because I miss Kindergarten SO MUCH!!! (I can't talk about it, I tear up!)  ANNNNND my bulletin board is bright and colorful...aka my heart is full! :)

I wanted to share one one of our engagement photos that were taken by the amazing Ashley Rose.  We were out in San Juan Capistrano last weekend as she captured our feeling awkward smiling at each other love.  She took this one with her phone, so I can't imagine what the edited ones look like! :)

SitSpot Giveaway!!!!

Last week, at the Southern California Kindergarten Conference, I encountered an amazing new product....SitSpots.

These little velcro goodies can stick to the carpet (and don't come off easily) to help organize and manage your classroom.  Take a look...

I think ideally, I would use the SpitSpots instead of a class carpet.  I would evenly space them on the carpet so the students would all have a spot for "carpet time."  Look and see some ways of using SpitSpots in an elementary classroom...

During center time, I have the students practice reading their essay or journal entries to the students in their group.  I normally have them sit in a circle, but still in 4th grade you have the squirmy ones that have a hard time sitting still.  Now with SitSpots, I made a little reading corner!  The author can sit in the chair, and the listeners can each sit on a SitSpot.  This keeps them all spaced and ready to be good listeners!

The students came up with the idea for using SpitSpots to help organize our centers.  I wrote a number on each SpitSpot, and the students take their center to the corresponding marker on the carpet!

This is a horrible picture, BUT you can see that I placed some Spit Spots randomly around the room.  I have the students work in collaborative groups several times a day, and they normally get super close to other groups.  But now, the students have to work near a SpitSpot.  This keeps all of the groups spaced evenly around the room.

This is for all of you meticulous teachers out there that HATE it when your table groups get off-centered.  I put a SitSpot where the center of each table group should be.  This keeps the desks organized and tidy!

Spring Sentence Printables

I have had many requests to make a Spring Sentence Printable pack to match my Winter Sentence Printables, so here they are!  It comes with 25 simple sentences that follow different themes during the spring season.

The students can complete these printables independently after you show them how to do it!  There are multiple tasks for the students to do on each page.
For each sentence they:
read it
trace it
write it
draw it (for the short sentences)
cut and paste it

These are great for homework, center work, or independent practice!

Here are the different themes included among the 25 different sentences:
farmer
crops- carrots
sheep
butterfly
bunny
frog
flowers
Easter eggs
chicken
chick
Earth Day
